Sniffing is a dog's favourite way to switch off. Scatter their kibble or a few treats through the soft fleece and let them nose it out, one little find at a time. It turns a loud evening into a game they want to play.
Why sniffing helps
In a 2019 study, two weeks of sniffing games left pet dogs in a more positive frame of mind than heelwork training did. RSPCA Australia also suggests feeding and playing with your dog before and during fireworks. The Snuffle Mat makes both easy.
How to use it
- Scatter a handful of their usual kibble deep into the fleece.
- Start easy, with food near the top, then hide it deeper as they get the hang of it.
- Bring it out before a storm or fireworks, and pair it with the Lick Mat for a longer wind-down.
