My cat won't wear anything.

That's fine. The plan starts with a hiding place, and the wrap stays optional. Plenty of cats never wear it.

Do I need the Hideaway too?

Not strictly: a box with a blanket works. The Hideaway is a soft, covered den that's ready to go, and with the cat kit a Den Blanket is 30% off.

How it fits, sizing and safety

For cats who vanish when the thunder starts. Most cats cope with a storm by hiding, so this kit starts with a hiding place and a plan. The soft wrap is there for the cats who like it, and it stays optional.

What you get

  • The four-week Storm Ready plan, with a page just for cats: a printable PDF, linked in your order confirmation
  • The cat wrap in soft, breathable cotton-blend jersey, in Charcoal, with an adjustable hook-and-loop fastening. Optional, never forced.

The cat storm plan

  1. Give them a hiding place. A covered cave or a box with a blanket inside, set up a week or two early so it smells like home.
  2. Keep them in and safe. Indoors before dark, windows and cat flaps closed, litter, water and food close by.
  3. Let them choose. Never pull them out of hiding or shut them in.
  4. A wrap, only if they like it. Try it on a calm day, a few seconds at a time. If they freeze, flop over or fight it, leave it out. The plan still works.

Sizing

Measure around the widest part of your cat's chest, just behind the front legs. S fits about 24 to 34 cm, M about 34 to 41 cm, L about 41 to 48 cm. Or try our size finder.

Wrong size? We'll swap it, free. And if the kit isn't right for your cat, the 30-day Storm Night Promise means we'll refund you, and you keep it.

Every cat is different. The kit is designed to help with comfort and routine. It isn't a treatment for anxiety or a substitute for veterinary advice. Always supervise your cat while they wear the wrap, and take it off once things are quiet.

Sound familiar?

The first rumble, and they're gone. Under the bed, behind the couch, somewhere you can't reach.

  1. Ears flat. A low crouch by the door.

  2. Under the bed, as far back as they can get.

  3. You check. Two eyes in the dark. Dinner untouched.

  4. You try to pick them up. They squirm free and hide again.

  5. They creep out, once it's finally quiet.

A cat resting somewhere soft and safe
Same storm. A cat with somewhere to go.

Hiding isn't the problem. It's the plan.

For most cats, hiding is how they cope. Welfare groups like Battersea and RSPCA Australia say the kindest thing you can do is give them a safe place to hide, set up before the noise starts, and let them choose it. So that's where this kit starts.

The cat storm plan

Dogs come to you. Cats find a hiding place. So plan for that.

Four steps, set up on calm days, so storm night is somewhere safe and familiar, not a chase around the house.

  1. Give them a hiding place

A covered cave or a box with a blanket inside, up high if you can. Set it up a week or two early so it already smells like home.

  2. Keep them in and safe

Bring them inside before dark. Close windows and cat flaps, and keep litter, water and food close to the hiding spot.

  3. Let them choose

Never pull them out or shut them in. Sit nearby, keep things quiet, and let them come out in their own time.

  4. A wrap, only if they like it

Some cats settle in a snug layer. Many would rather not. Try it on a calm day first, and skip it if they say no.

Why hiding comes first

Hiding boxes helped shelter cats settle faster.

In a randomised study of 23 shelter cats, the cats given a hiding box had lower stress scores from day two, and settled about a week sooner than the cats without one.

Day 2Lower stress scores from the second day

~1 weekSooner to settle than cats without a box

That's why the cat kit is built around the hiding place, and the wrap is optional.

Van der Leij et al., PLoS ONE, 2019. A small study of cats in a shelter, not pet cats at home during storms, but it's the clearest evidence there is for giving cats a place to hide. If your cat's fear is severe, please talk to your vet.

The advice it follows

Battersea and RSPCA Australia both say: give them somewhere to hide.

A covered box with a blanket inside, ideally up high, with the opening partly covered. Keep them indoors on loud nights, and never shut them in. Every step of the cat plan follows that advice.

Paraphrased from their public advice. Boop & Bean isn't affiliated with or endorsed by either charity.

The wrap (optional)

Some cats like a snug layer. Many don't. Let them decide.

The cat wrap gives a soft, even hug around the chest. We include it because some cats settle in it, but we won't pretend every cat will. Try it on a calm day, a few seconds at a time. If your cat says no, that's your answer.

An honest note. There's very little research on wraps for cats. The hiding place does the heavy lifting. The wrap is a bonus for the cats who enjoy it, and you're covered by the Storm Night Promise if yours doesn't.

Sniff and treat

Leave the wrap near their favourite spot with a treat on it. Let them investigate it in their own time.

Going wellWalking normally, eating, tail up, grooming.

Take it offFreezing, flopping over, flattened ears, backing out of it.

Cats often freeze or flop over in clothing. It can look calm, but it isn't. If yours does, take the wrap off and leave it out of the plan.

What's in the box

Start with the hiding place. Add the hug if they want it.

The kit gives you the plan and the wrap. Most cats will also want a covered den, so we've made that easy too.

The Storm Ready plan

Four weeks of calm-day steps, a storm-night checklist and a page just for cats, including the signs it's time to call your vet.

A note from Oliver

Why there's a cat kit.

I run Boop & Bean from the Gold Coast, right in the storm belt. My cat, Chilli, gets scared when the storms roll in. What helps him is his blanket: something familiar and safe.

That's what this kit is built around. A safe, familiar place, ready before the noise starts, and a wrap only if he wants it.

Good questions

Before you order

Still wondering? Email hello@boopandbean.com and a real person will reply.

Will my cat actually wear it?

Maybe, maybe not, and we'd rather be honest. Some cats settle in a snug layer; many would rather not wear anything. That's why the kit leads with a hiding place and the calm-day introduction. If your cat isn't keen, leave the wrap out. The plan still works, and the Storm Night Promise covers you.

Does my cat need the Hideaway too?

Not strictly. A cardboard box with a blanket inside works too. The Hideaway is a soft, covered den that's ready to go, and with the cat kit it makes the Cat Safe Space Kit, with 30% off a Den Blanket.

Is it okay to just let my cat hide?

Yes. Hiding is how most cats cope. Let them choose the spot, keep food, water and litter close, and don't pull them out. If they hide for a long time and stop eating, drinking or using the litter tray, please call your vet.

How do I measure my cat?

Measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. S fits about 24 to 34 cm, M about 34 to 41 cm and L about 41 to 48 cm. Between sizes? Go up one. Wrong size? We'll swap it, free.

Is it too warm for a Queensland summer?

It's a soft, breathable cotton-blend jersey, but it's still a layer. Keep the room cool, leave water nearby, and take it off if they seem warm or start panting.

How long can they wear it?

Only while you're close by, and only while they're comfortable. Take it off once things are quiet. Never leave it on overnight or while they're alone.

When will it arrive?

Delivery usually takes 8 to 15 business days, tracked and free. Order early so there's time to set up the hiding place and let your cat make it their own.

What if it isn't right for my cat?

That's the Storm Night Promise. Email us within 30 days of delivery and we'll refund your order. You keep everything, so there's nothing to post back.

Is the plan just a PDF?

It's a six-page printable plan with a week-by-week schedule: safety checks, setting up a hiding place, the calm-day introduction, a storm-night and fireworks checklist, and a page just for cats, including when to call your vet. It comes with both Storm Kits.
